Joseph Devitt Tremblay grew up on the high fashion runways of Paris with a camera in his hand. As the son of an acclaimed fashion journalist and a working media artist and professor, his formative years were spent in a unique environment that intersects body and space with narrative and abstraction.
With 15 years of experience, Mr. Devitt Tremblay moved from curious darkroom experiments to a daily studio practise while studying Photography at Ryerson University.
In 2012 he established Lightwriter Productions— a multi-use Toronto studio. Under this guise, he collaborates with Toronto artists to create unique and diverse portraits, and design lights for nightlife and cinema.
He continues to work as a director of cinematography having shot music videos for Ice Cream, SeT, Elsa, The Weather Station, Man Made Hill, and many more.
For Mr. Devitt Tremblay, curiosity above all else is the guiding light. His work is as much concerned with aesthetics as it is with the present experience of a moment. Be it the atmosphere of a shoot, or the presentation of a print in a gallery, Joseph repeatedly reinvents his work by treating each moment as a new exploration of daily life.
